International Shipments – New restrictions (1st November 2010)

CitySprint's International services are provided with the support and resource of a number of specialist carriers, airlines & carefully chosen partners with whom we work very closely.

Shipment security is a primary concern for CitySprint and we comply with all current requirements of the agencies with which we work and with any government legislation or international conventions.  All CitySprint couriers and shipment handling staff are vetted and are subject to identity and CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) checks.

We have reviewed our standard vehicle, shipment and building security procedures, increased the number of spot checks on shipments from account customers and issued a reminder to personnel and couriers of their responsibilities in this regard.  Shipments from non account customers continue to be hand searched and screened prior to export.  International shipments are screened by the carrier airline prior to departure and such screening may include x-ray examination.

Whilst we await the results of any wider review of airport security, we would remind our clients of their responsibility to ensure that that they know:

  • The identity of the sender of each item
  • The exact contents of each shipment

This information must be clearly and accurately declared for each booking.

Due to the threat to security posed by freight originating in Yemen, the carriage of shipments that have originated in Yemen or Somalia or at any time have passed through Yemen or Somalia, is currently suspended. Proof of origin will be required for all shipments.

Please note that due to new restrictions being implemented by airlines with little or no notice, customers may experience some delays but CitySprint will notify customers as soon as possible and give regular updates.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding at this time.

UPDATE 3rd November 2010

The carriage of toner cartridges heavier than 500g by air has been suspended into and from the UK by a Department for Transport instruction. Customers cannot therefore use CitySprint's International air services to ship any consignment that contains a toner cartridge heavier than 500g into or from the UK. This restriction has been imposed for an initial 30 day period effective midnight of 1 November 2010. For the avoidance of doubt, this restriction also applies to equipment containing a toner cartridge.

Customers are reminded that Citysprint also has a reliable and economic ground service for shipments between the UK and other EU locations, look out for Economy / Heavyweight options online or ask your ServiceCentre staff for details.
