Last week, the team at CitySprint's Warwick ServiceCentre completed a 'CitySprint' cycle challenge in aid of Comic Relief and raised over £2,500 for the charity.
Between Monday 14th March and Friday 18th March, eleven team members from CitySprint's Warwick ServiceCentre, ranging from nineteen years old to mid-forties, cycled 1523 miles between them – which is the equivalent of the distance between each of CitySprint's 31 ServiceCentres across the UK.
As if that wasn't enough, because they completed the 1523 miles ahead of schedule, the team then went on to cycle an additional 195 miles on Friday afternoon to raise even more money!
Tracey Simpson, CitySprint's Warwick ServiceCentre Manager who thought of the idea explains, "We had been discussing ways to raise money for Comic Relief for some time and this seemed like the perfect challenge for us to sink our teeth into and have fun at the same time!
Over the course of the week we each took it in turns to cycle on an exercise bike for an hour at a time, with our red noses on, until we had covered the required distance. It was certainly a challenge – we even nicknamed ourselves 'team saddle sore' - but we were determined to complete the challenge in order to raise money for Comic Relief".
On Friday evening Martin Poole, CitySprint's Regional Manager - Midlands & Northern Regions, told BBC Radio Coventry and Warwickshire "The team have done very well. The original mileage was completed at around 11am this morning so they decided to cycle an additional 195 miles. It has been very difficult for them but they have had a good time doing it. With the cycling taking place between 7am and 6pm each day some have had to come in early and stay late but they have all done it with a smile on their face as it's for such a fantastic cause".
The team have raised over £2,500 with donations from family, friends, clients and suppliers. CitySprint whole-heartedly supported this initiative and has also sponsored the team.
CitySprint, the UK's largest SameDay distribution network, has the largest pushbike fleet in London, with over 70 bikes covering Central London, which made this challenge all the more appropriate!
