The contract went live on 1st November 2008 and named CitySprint as the preferred supplier for all emergency SameDay Courier deliveries, Land Forces (Army), Maritime (Navy), the Airforce including USAF as well as a number of other MoD departments.

The contract was awarded after a competitive tender process from which the CitySprint proposal emerged as the most economically advantageous.
The contract is scoped for CitySprint to make around 20,000 movements per annum, a level of support made possible by City Sprint's national fleet of over 1600 couriers; each of whom is security checked and professionally presented, wearing a branded uniform.

Many of the MoD's shipments are vital to Defence projects and therefore the ability to track their progress is of considerable importance. The unique tracking ability CitySprint can provide will be helpful to the MoD. CitySprint has made a significant investment in technology which brings total transparency to clients. CitySprint has the largest GPS enabled fleet in Europe which means that all of its customers benefit from access to real-time information. CitySprint took this bold step of offering complete transparency to its clients as it believes that trust and control are elements of extreme importance to its clients.

The MoD will be able to view, through the CitySprint website, a real-time map location of the courier during their job and access a job audit and electronic proof of signature. They can also share this information with their partners by sending an emailable hyperlink. Once the job has been delivered the MoD will also receive notification of what time the job was delivered, to where, and who signed for it.
