Paul Molloy and Nicky Hayes become official Senior Fellows

On Friday 28th February, the Institute of Couriers held their 2023 Fellows’ Gowning at the House of Lords.
CitySprint are delighted to announce that two colleagues have become official IOC Senior Fellows. Paul Molloy, Director of Operations - London and Specialist Services, and Nicky Hayes, General Manager London are the latest CitySprint colleagues to attend the ceremony and be gowned as Institute of Courier Fellows.

Paul started his career in logistics in 1990 as a Trainee with a transport company based in West London delivering furniture for Harrods, DH Evans and Army and Navy stores in Central London. He worked his way through many different roles before running the same day courier division for Night Freight in late 1990’s. In 2000, he started his own business with partners based at Heathrow until 2008, then he worked as a consultant on various projects including London Ambulance, International courier and finally linehaul for Sovereign GmbH (German company based in Hamburg). He then joined Sovereign in 2010 as UK Manager of the site in Heathrow, until 2013, when he joined the team at CitySprint.

Paul began at CitySprint as the Operations Manager for the Amazon business over 8 national sites until he was later moved to the In Night Manager position to support on acquisitions. In 2015, he became General Manager for the Southern region and specialist services until 2019, where Paul became Director of Specialist Services, a role which he still works to date.

Paul has many notable achievements throughout his three decades in logistics, but he considers working through the 1992 recession and 2008 credit crunch moments of considerable strength and perseverance. The Covid-19 pandemic also brought challenges to business operations in the logistics indsustry, however Paul proudly helped to pivot those challenges and operate successfully from a commercial and colleague perspective.

Paul mentions, I am very proud and honoured to be chosen as a Fellow, the IOC provides Fellow’s with the recognition for their industry-related skills as well as to encourage knowledge sharing and development of individuals own competence in the application of courier and logistic skills.”

1987 marked the beginning of Nicky’s career in logistics, where he worked for St Ives Plc as Operations manager. Herer he was responsible for the higher level planning and the overall strategic direction of the group fulfilment and postal devisions. He stayed with St Ives Plc for 17 years, progressing to general manager, taking responsibility for a team of over 220 colleagues.

In 2003, Nicky took a risk and sold his beloved Ford XR31 and took from his savings to start up his own same day, overnight, international and postal business with three other partners. Nicky’s business, CYC Logistics, required hard work and dedication to be lifted off the ground. He would find himself working 7 days a week, 365 days a year, taking risks and pushing on to make it the success it was destined to be.

In 2012/13, CYC was making waves in the London area and was recognised locally and nationally as a big player at the time. In 2014, Nicky had received multiple offers to acquire CYC – one of which being CitySprint. In 2014, CitySprint acquired CYC Logistics to support growth in London.

Nicky now works as General Manager at our London Service Centre, a position he has excelled in for the last eight years.

Nicky quotes, “It is a proud moment to be recognised by the industry you have spent your life working in, to have the opportunity to support, promote and impact the future of the industry is exciting, to continue the work on moving to a more ethical and sustainable delivery solution is something we should all support. I am looking forward to supporting and promoting the core values and goals of the IOC and at the same time bringing my experience and knowledge gained over the years to delivery positive input.”

The value and skillset both Paul and Nicky bring to CitySprint are invaluable, as they have continued to demonstrate through their years in logistics. We would like to extend our congratulations to Paul and Nicky, as well as all the newly gowned fellows who attended last night's ceremony.
