Important EU custom changes from July 1
30 June 2026From 1 July 2026, the European Union is introducing major changes to customs rules for goods imported from outside the EU.
These changes are part of an EU focus on establishing fairer competition between domestic and non-EU sellers, tightening product safety and combatting tax evasion.
These changes will impact the amount of duty that needs to be paid, the arrangements for IOSS clearance and the data you need to give us to clear your goods.
What's changing
Duty charges
Duty will be charged by the EU on all shipments valued at less than €150 (Low Value). For B2C goods, this will be a flat fee of €3 per item line; B2B shipments will be charged based on item value using the existing duty rates.
Product identifiers
For Low Value B2C, up to three identifiers will be required for each item within a parcel. These are:
- Merchant SKU (the merchant's unique identification code for goods, usually the SKU, item code, or product code).
- Non-Standardised Manufacturer ID (the manufacturer's unique identification code for goods).
- Standardised Manufacturer ID (if it exists, a code provided by a governing body to the manufacturer where the product meets industry standards. Often a barcode, ISBN, EAN, or GTIN).
This requirement is mandatory from 1 November 2026.
