Case Closed: 90 young detectives help solve The Missing Library Delivery
10 August 2026A reading adventure that brought books, families and communities together.
What happens when you combine mystery, teamwork, books and a missing CitySprint delivery?
You get an unforgettable adventure that inspires children to discover the joy of reading.
In partnership with The Libraries Consortium and Lewisham Libraries, CitySprint recently hosted The Missing Library Delivery treasure hunt at Downham Library, welcoming families from across the local community for two exciting days of detective-themed fun.
Across the events, 90 children took part, following clues hidden throughout the library, solving riddles and working together to uncover the mystery of the missing CitySprint delivery. Along the way, participants explored different areas of the library, discovered new books and engaged with reading in a fun and interactive way.
Bringing reading to life
Designed to encourage children to explore their local library in a new and exciting way, the treasure hunt transformed Downham Library into a vibrant detective trail.
Each young participant received a treasure passport and set off on a mission to solve clues, locate hidden CitySprint vans and ultimately crack the case. The event proved to be a huge success, with children enthusiastically embracing the challenge and families enjoying the opportunity to spend time together while discovering everything the library has to offer.
CitySprint's iconic Squish Van was a particular highlight, while goodie bags and prizes ensured every detective was rewarded for their efforts.
A community effort
The event was made possible through the support and enthusiasm of library teams, volunteers and community partners.
Reflecting on the experience, volunteer and CitySprint Operations Co-ordinator Tina Kiely said:
"I had a fantastic experience at Downham Library, very friendly atmosphere and what a fun day engaging with the children. Watching their faces light up when they were given their treasure passports and their bags was lovely to see. Downham Library was a great experience and a fantastic welcome for all."
Natasha Marques, CSR Manager at CitySprint, added:
"It was fantastic to see all the planning come to life. We thought it would be a mostly self-guided activity, but we ended up spending lots of time helping the children solve the riddles and discover the clues together. Seeing them explore the library, engage with books in a completely different way and celebrate when they found the hidden vans was incredibly rewarding. Their excitement was infectious, and we all came away with huge smiles on our faces."
A huge thank you goes to our volunteers Raymond Saunders, Bernard Owusu, Tina Kiely and Lottie Tooby, as well as the library teams who helped create such a warm and welcoming environment for local families.
Delivering more than parcels
At CitySprint, we believe logistics can be a force for positive change.
This treasure hunt is just one example of how we work alongside local authorities, public sector organisations and community partners to deliver meaningful social value that extends beyond contractual commitments.
Through our Social Value Framework, we help customers create tangible, measurable benefits for local communities while continuing to deliver the excellent logistics services they rely on.
The success of The Missing Library Delivery event has already prompted discussions about extending the activity to additional libraries within The Libraries Consortium, with ambitions to reach around 500 children through future events using the remaining treasure hunt resources.
Looking ahead
The case may be closed, but this is only the beginning.
By creating engaging experiences that encourage reading, learning and community participation, we're helping to inspire the next generation while strengthening local connections.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, supported the event and helped make it such a memorable success. We hope every child left with a smile, a prize and perhaps most importantly, a new love of reading.
