What do I need as a self-employed courier?
Valid UK Driving Licence (if applicable)
You’ll need a full, valid UK driving licence to operate your vehicle safely and legally while making deliveries.
Proof of Right to work in the UK
Provide official documentation confirming your legal eligibility to work in the UK — this is required for all self-employed contractors.
Your own vehicle
A reliable vehicle is essential for timely and efficient deliveries. Make sure it’s well-maintained and ready for daily use.
Your own smart phone
You’ll need a smartphone to access delivery apps, navigation, and communication tools while on the job.
- What is a self-employed courier?
A self-employed courier works for themselves. You choose when, where, and how often you work. You're responsible for your own tax and insurance, but you have full control over your schedule and earnings.
- Do I need my own vehicle to work with CitySprint?
Yes. You'll need access to a vehicle- this could be a small van, car, motorbike or bicycle. The type of work available will depend on the vehicle you use.
- How long does it take to get started?
Most couriers are ready to start within a few days. Just apply online, book your onboarding call, upload your documents, and meet your local ops team.
- Can I do courier work on evenings or weekends?
Absolutely. We operate 24/7, so you can work at times that suit you, whether that’s early mornings, late nights, weekends, or a mix.
- What is same day delivery?
Same-day delivery means picking up and delivering parcels on the same day often within hours. It's time-critical work where reliability really matters.
- Do I need courier vehicle insurance?
Yes, if you're using a motor vehicle. You’ll need hire and reward insurance to legally carry goods as a courier. If you're unsure, we can help point you in the right direction.
- How do I get paid?
You’ll be paid weekly, straight into your bank account. You’ll also have access to clear payment summaries through the app.
- What documents do I need to apply?
You’ll need proof of right to work in the UK, a valid driving licence (if applicable), your vehicle insurance, and access to a smartphone.
- Is there a minimum number of jobs I need to do?
No, you choose how often you work. Many couriers work part-time around other jobs or family life. Others work full-time across multiple days.
- What kind of deliveries will I be doing?
You’ll have access to a wide range of deliveries from retail and office supplies to urgent legal documents and life-saving medical deliveries. Jobs will vary based on your location and vehicle type. Of course, as a self-employed courier, you’re always free to choose whether you accept or reject any job. You’re in control
