With the general commercial and retail landscapes rapidly evolving at a pace never experienced in recent times through digitisation, companies have to adapt. Far from viewing this as a threat, I see tremendous opportunity.
Delivery innovation has never been more important with Millennials driving a culture of speed and convenience and a real demand for local distribution supply chains to support local businesses, as trade continually moves to an online environment.
Underlining these trends are examples such as Sainsbury’s recent bid for the Argos network to bolster their online offering and retailers with the most mature e-commerce offerings making up most of the winners from the recent key 2015 Christmas trading period.
At CitySprint, we are certainly not immune to this and, in fact, I am very excited about the future. From supporting local shop networks to enable them to widen their e-commerce offering, to the delivery of prescription medicines to patients at home from local dispensing hubs, the flexible and dynamic CitySprint network of couriers is well positioned to capitalise – however, it is not all going to simply fall in our lap! Technology
plays a vital part and that is why, I am delighted to announce the launch of our technology accelerator business, LastMileLink Technologies (LMLT).
Our On the dot retail specific product proved more than ever the need for sector relevant technology that can support developing trends. We are currently experiencing tremendous traction with On the dot, the maiden project for LMLT and I expect to experience similar success with future innovative developments planned. These include the development of toolsets to assist our couriers, increase productivity in our operations and bolster our IT platform to scale in the global market.
The niche same day market has never been so ‘mainstream’ and CitySprint is at the epicentre of these exciting developments. We plan to do all we can to jump on-board and enjoy the ride over the coming years!
